Winchester drive An IBM old drive named "30-30" because of its 30 MB of fixed storage and 30 MB of removable storage. The name itself is reminiscent of the Winchester "30-30" rifle.
WORM (write-once-read-many-times) A class of recording (mostly optical) system which allows recording but not altering the data. Additional data could be written on the WORM media, but already written data can not be altered.
Write current The current passed through the write element needed to generate a magnetic field strong enough to cause local magnetization of the media.
